Buffer strips, also known as a riparian buffers, are areas of vegetation located along the banks of a water body, such as a river, stream, lake, or pond. This strip of vegetation serves as a transitional zone between the aquatic environment and the surrounding land. Buffer strips are designed to protect water quality, prevent erosion, and provide habitat for aquatic and terrestrial species.
