The Swedish program for cattle without a shed

Updated: 1 day ago

In Sweden, during the last 10 years, a control program has been run for outdoor cattle without a shed during the winter. The program was developed and is owned by Sweden's beef producers but is run by Gård och djurhälsan, a team of both veterinarians and agricultural advisors. The control program makes it possible to keep cattle outdoors during the winter months without a shed. The program contains clear guidelines for how cattle should be managed to ensure the welfare of the animals. This type of arrangement enables greater flexibility for the farmer and is good for animal welfare.

Currently, there is no corresponding control program on Åland or in Finland, but there seems to be interest and need. We therefore want to invite you to a seminar series in three parts where we have invited lecturers from various organizations to talk about their perspectives on the Swedish programme.
